What It Is

Cooper Complete® Methyl Folate 5000 mcg (5 mg) supplement in the L-5-MTHF methylated form of folate that supports heart, brain, mood, and overall health.

How to Use:

As a dietary supplement, take one (1) tablet daily or as directed by your health care professional. Each bottle contains 60 servings.

How It Helps

Methyl Folate Supplement 5000 mcg (5 mg) contains folic acid in the L-methylfolate (L-5-MTHF) form. Folate in the 5-MTHF form is the naturally occurring form found in cells. It is directly useable in the body without going through a conversion process. This form of folate does not mask B12 deficiency. Best known for preventing neural tube defects, folate isn’t just important for women of childbearing age.

Heart Health

Approximately 33 percent of Americans carry one copy of a common MTHFR gene mutation (C677T), and 11 percent of Americans carry two C677T mutations and have a 16 percent higher chance of developing coronary heart disease (CHD), a narrowing of the small blood vessels that supply oxygen and blood to the heart, than those without gene mutations. These gene mutations also increase homocysteine levels, a blood marker risk factor for heart disease. Methyl Folate lowers homocysteine levels.

Mood and Brain Health

Methyl Folate is vital for the production of neurotransmitters (serotonin, melatonin, dopamine, and epinephrine) involved in concentration, energy, sleep, hormones and mood stability.†  Folate helps improve brain mood naturally. Low folate levels may prevent the brain from making enough neurotransmitters in people who are depressed. In some, but not all, studies, low folate levels have been linked to depression and poor response to antidepressants.† The 5-MTHF form of folate is the only form of folate shown to cross the blood-brain barrier, where it supports neurological health.† Healthy homocysteine levels are associated with cognitive health.

Overall Health

Methyl Folate supports normal cell growth, cell division, and DNA formation.† It also supports the formation of healthy red blood cells.†

Alcohol interferes with folate absorption, so heavy drinkers risk folate deficiency. Diseases of malabsorption, including celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease, increase folate deficiency risk. Gastric surgery diminishes gastric acid secretion, which can reduce folate absorption.

Adults take one (1) tablet daily or as directed by their health care professional.

6 Questions
Ask a Question
Q:

Does it matter whether I take this supplement with or without food?

A:

As Methyl Folate is a B vitamin and all the B vitamins are water-soluble, it’s ideal for best absorption to take this supplement on an empty stomach with a glass of water.

Q:

Does this product contain soy?

A:

No, Cooper Complete Methyl Folate supplement does not contain soy.

Q:

Are there medications that interact with Methyl Folate supplements?

A:

It’s important to talk with your physician about the supplements you take. Methotrexate medications used to treat cancer and autoimmune diseases, antiepileptic medications (such as phenytoin, carbamazepine, and valproate), and sulfasalazine used to treat ulcerative colitis can be negatively impacted by folate supplementation.

Q:

The supplement facts say DFE. What is DFE?

A:

DFE stands for Dietary Folate Equivalent and is supposed to make it easier to determine overall folate received from food sources and supplements.

Q:

Can I take this product if I am also taking Coumadin or Warfarin?

A:

If you are taking Coumadin or Warfarin, we recommend consulting your doctor before adding any supplements to your diet.

Q:

Why do you refer to Vitamin B6 as methyl folate rather than folic acid?

A:

Methyl Folate is the naturally occurring form of vitamin B6 (folate), whereas folic acid is a synthetic form of vitamin B6 that the liver must convert before it’s useable in the body. Unfortunately, almost half the population has a gene mutation that prohibits the body from converting and using folic acid.
