Cooper Complete product line on a table

We enjoy answering your questions about Cooper Complete supplements. Below are the ten most commonly asked questions about our vitamins and supplements.

1. Should I take a multivitamin, and if so, which one?

This is one of the most common vitamin questions we receive, and the answer might surprise you. Whether you should take a multivitamin depends upon your diet. Suppose you consistently follow the MyPlate (formerly the Food Pyramid) recommendations, which include eating 1 1/2 to 2 cups of fruit and 2 to 2 1/2 cups of vegetables each day (in addition to whole grains, low- or no-fat dairy, etc.). In that case, you probably don’t need a multivitamin. On the other hand, if your diet is often lacking, it makes sense to take a multivitamin.

Within the Cooper Complete product line, we offer multivitamins with- and without- iron. Men and post-menopausal women typically choose an iron-free formula, while women in their childbearing years who have a monthly cycle will take a multivitamin with iron. Regular blood donors, vegans, and vegetarians may also need a “with iron” formula. Our multivitamins with iron contain:

    • 18 milligrams
    • 100 percent of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for women 19-50 years is 18 mg per day
    • The RDA for adult men and women 51 years and older is 8 mg/day

2. I take Cooper Complete Original. Why do you recommend taking it twice daily?

We split the daily serving of eight tablets into four tablets in the morning and four in the evening. Dividing the daily serving helps keep these vitamins at their highest levels as our body eliminates many water-soluble vitamins within 12 hours. For optimal absorption and reduced potential for stomach upset, your meals should contain protein, fat, and carbohydrates. We also offer a one-tablet-a-day multivitamin and mineral formula Cooper Complete Basic One if you find you do not consistently take all eight tablets.

3. What’s the difference between the Cooper Complete Original and Basic One multivitamin and mineral formulations?

Our Cooper Complete Original is the most comprehensive product available, including all ingredients in Basic One, plus 100 mg coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) for heart health, 6 mg lutein for skin and eye health, 300 mcg biotin for hair and nails, and higher levels of vitamins A, C and K, the B vitamins thiamin and riboflavin and magnesium. Basic One is Cooper Clinic’s baseline recommendation for optimal health. A side-by-side comparison of the two multivitamin and mineral formulations provides an easy-to-read snapshot of the products.

4. Does Omega-3 leave a fishy after-taste?

While we can’t promise you’ll never experience a fishy taste when you take Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3, the fish oil used in our formulation goes through additional processing to increase the concentration of the beneficial long-chain omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, rosemary extract is added to the fish oil (for flavor and smell), and the capsule exterior is washed with natural lemon flavor. These measures help reduce the likelihood you’ll experience a fishy aftertaste.

5. Do I need to refrigerate Advanced Omega-3?

It is not necessary to refrigerate Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3. However, our office has found refrigeration of the softgels dramatically reduces the stickiness often encountered with softgels, particularly in warmer, more humid environments. Be sure to tightly close lids on vitamins and supplements you put into the refrigerator since the refrigerator is humid in addition to being cold.

6. Where are Cooper Complete supplements made?

While Cooper Complete supplements are made in the United States, ingredients are sourced from around the globe. The raw materials are imported into the United States, where they undergo extensive testing. Once tested to ensure the raw materials meet quality standards, the ingredients are blended into our custom formulations here in the United States.

7. What’s the difference between Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium Oxide?

Cooper Complete Magnesium Oxide provides 300 mg elemental magnesium, while Cooper Complete Magnesium Glycinate provides 100 mg elemental magnesium. The glycinate form of magnesium is easy to absorb, gentle on the digestive system, and doesn’t induce the laxative effect some people experience when using the oxide form. The oxide form is terrifically inexpensive for those who can tolerate it and has been used the most in magnesium research.

8. Do I need to take CoQ10?

CoQ10, otherwise known as coenzyme Q10, is recommended for those on statin medication to reduce their cholesterol level. A common side effect of statin medications is muscle soreness, aches, and pains. CoQ10 is recommended to help combat these statin medication side effects. Physician recommendations are typically for patients to take 100 mg one to two times daily. (100 mg CoQ10 is one of the ingredients in the Cooper Complete Original multivitamin.)

9. Why isn’t calcium included in your multivitamins?

Calcium requirements vary by gender and age. We practice a “food first” philosophy and believe vitamins and supplements should augment a healthy diet. Depending on your gender, age, and how much calcium you consume in your typical diet, you may or may not need to take calcium. The amount of calcium you need may be very different than that of someone else. Cooper Clinic recommends the following daily calcium intake:

10. Is it safe to take more than one Cooper Complete supplement?

Cooper Complete supplements work together. While Cooper Clinic recommends people take a multivitamin and omega-3 fatty acids, your diet helps determine which products are best for you. Depending upon your individual health concerns, supplements for joints, eyes, skin, prostate, or sleep can be added. All Cooper Complete products are physician formulated and are safe to take in any combination.
