What It Is

Cooper Complete® Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin Supplement supports healthy nerve cells and energy production. Those at risk of B12 deficiency are individuals age 60 and older, strict vegetarians and people with pernicious anemia.

How to Use:

As a dietary supplement, take 1 vegetarian capsule daily or as directed by your health care professional. Each bottle contains 100 servings.

How It Helps

Vitamin B12 is naturally found in animal products such as fish, poultry, meat, eggs or dairy. Vitamin B12 is not found in plants. Breakfast cereals and dairy alternative milk (soy, coconut, oat or almond milk) are also often fortified with Vitamin B12 supplements. Both beef liver and clams, an odd combination, have incredibly high levels of this vitamin, and salmon and trout have good levels of vitamin B12. This vitamin also naturally occurs in chicken, tuna, yogurt, milk, eggs, and cheese. Vitamin B12 is also found in virtually all multivitamins, although usually in the less efficiently absorbed cyanocobalamin form. Prescriptions for vitamin B12 are also sometimes prescribed.

Who Is At Risk For Vitamin B12 Deficiency?

  • Diabetes who take the medication Metformin
  • Individuals who are heavy drinkers
  • Individuals with pernicious anemia
  • Individuals who have undergone weight loss surgery
  • Individuals with Celiac and Crohn’s Disease
  • Individuals on acid blocker medications such as Nexium, Prevacid or Zantac
  • Individuals who consume very little animal protein or dairy
  • Older adults (60+ years of age)
  • Vegans
  • Vegetarians

The National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements estimate vitamin B12 deficiency for 1.5-15% of the public. With age, stomach acid levels decline, and this can cause a Vitamin B12 deficiency. In addition, many older adults trend towards a diet with less animal and dairy products, and the combination of changing diet and lower stomach acid levels can cause a deficiency. For these reasons, Cooper Clinic regularly measures B12 blood levels in patients over the age of 60 and others who might be at risk.

Symptoms of Vitamin B12 Deficiency

  • Memory issues
  • Moodiness or depression
  • Muscle weakness
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Low blood pressure
  • Numbness or tingling in arms and legs
  • Shakiness
  • Unsteady gait
  • Incontinence

This laundry list of symptoms is identical to signs of aging for many. For this reason, and because it’s possible to have only one or two of the symptoms and still be deficient, our recommendation is to consider B12 deficiency if any of these symptoms exist.

Vitamin B12 is important for metabolism, the formation of red blood cells, and the maintenance of the central nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord.

Working in combination with Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and Vitamin B9 (folic acid), B12 plays a key role in converting homocysteine into methionine, one of the 20 or so building blocks from which the body builds new proteins.

This product is gluten-free, Non-GMO.

One serving provides 1,000 mcg of Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin Supplement. Each bottle contains 100 servings.

Suggested Usage: As a dietary supplement, take one capsule daily or as directed by your health care professional.

Reviews of Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin Supplement 1000 mcg

  1. There is a huge difference in these vitamins and what I was taking. I’m in my 60’s and feel like I’m in my 30’s! I sleep better, have more energy, and ache less. I highly recommend these vitamins

  2. There’s certainly a discernible difference between the B12 I was taking and Cooper Complete B12. I’m glad I read extensively about vitamin b12. All are certainly not created equal. I will be purchasing this B12 going forward.

12 Questions
Ask a Question
Q:

Are your vitamins third party tested?

A:

Cooper Complete products are verified, and lot tested. If you would like a copy of a Certificate of Authenticity for a specific product, please contact us at customerservice@coopercomplete.com.

Q:

I have twin boys aged 9 and have ASD. I’ve been reading that methylcobalamin B12 could help them. Do you ship to the UK? They are nonverbal but understand everything. We are desperate. Are the injections better for speech? Thank you.

A:

At this time, we only ship within the United States and its territories.

The research indicates a daily supplement pill is as effective as taking a monthly muscle injection for many people, but it may depend on the reasons for the deficiency. Talk with your physician about whether methylcobalamin injections are better for speech or if a daily pill might work.

Q:

Since B12 is better absorbed sublingually, why did you switch to pills?

A:

Although sublingual B12 is often promoted as being better absorbed, there does not appear to be evidence for this. In fact, clinical studies have shown that B12 taken orally versus under the tongue is equally effective in correcting B12 deficiency. The change to a capsule allows us to offer a better value. The new product offers 100 servings for the same price as the 30-serving liquid did.

Q:

Is it better to take vitamin B12 supplements with or without food?

A:

Vitamin B12 is one of the water-soluble vitamins, so it can be taken on an empty stomach with a glass of water (although taking it with food will also be okay).

Q:

Can I take this product if I am also taking Coumadin or Warfarin?

A:

If you are taking Coumadin or Warfarin, we recommend consulting your doctor before adding any supplements to your diet.

Q:

What are the symptoms of a Vitamin B12 deficiency?

A:

Symptoms of B12 deficiency include memory issues, moodiness or depression, muscle weakness, extreme fatigue, low blood pressure, numbness or tingling in arms and legs, shakiness, an unsteady gait and incontinence – the same symptoms that mimic the downside of aging for many. For this reason, and because it’s possible to have only one or two of the symptoms, we recommend considering a vitamin B12 deficiency if any of the symptoms exist. In addition, researchers have reported that these symptoms may occur when vitamin B12 levels are just slightly lower than normal and are considerably above the levels normally associated with anemia.

Q:

Who is at risk for having a Vitamin B12 deficiency?

A:

As Vitamin B12 is only found naturally in animal products, vegetarians, vegans, and those who consume very little animal protein, milk, or dairy should supplement to avoid a Vitamin B12 deficiency.

Those with “pernicious anemia” are also often Vitamin B12 deficient, as are heavy drinkers, and those who have had weight loss surgery. As stomach acid helps extract Vitamin B12 from food, those who take proton-pump inhibitors (like Prilosec or Nexium), H2 blockers, or other antacids regularly to reduce stomach acids may have a deficiency.

With age, stomach acid levels decline. In addition, many older adults tend towards a diet with fewer animal and dairy products, and the combination of changing diet, and lower stomach acid levels can cause a deficiency. For these reasons, Cooper Clinic regularly measures B12 blood levels in patients over the age of 60 and others who might be at risk.

Q:

How do I know if I should take B12 Methylcobalamin Supplement?

A:

The only way to know for sure if you need a B12 supplement is to get a blood test to determine how much B12 is in your body. The accepted range for B12 is between 254 and 1,320 picograms per milliliter of blood serum. However, Cooper Clinic physicians like to see at least 450 picograms per milliliter of blood serum or higher.

Q:

Is there Vitamin B12 in Cooper Complete multivitamins?

A:

Yes, all of our adult multivitamin and mineral formulations contain 400 mcg of Vitamin B12 (in the most active, absorbable methylcobalamin form of B12) per daily serving.

Q:

Does it matter whether I take this supplement with or without food?

A:

As Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, it’s ideal for best absorption to take this supplement on an empty stomach with a glass of water.

Q:

In what foods is vitamin B12 found?

A:

Vitamin B12 is found in animal products (fish, poultry, meat, eggs, and dairy). Breakfast cereals and enriched soy or rice milk are also often fortified with B12. Both beef liver and clams, an odd combination, have incredibly high levels of B12, but omega-rich salmon and trout have good levels, and there is some B12 in chicken, tuna, yogurt, milk, eggs and cheese. Virtually all multivitamins contain B12, but usually in the cyanocobalamin form, which is not as easily absorbed as the methylcobalamin form.

Q:

Are your supplements tested on animals?

A:

No, Cooper Complete does not test our products on animals.
